5 Designer Favorites Your New Kitchen Needs

kitchen appliance essentials

Choosing the tools and equipment that go into your kitchen doesn’t have to involve a lot of guesswork and finger-crossing -- if you have some expert insight.

We’ve designed a LOT of kitchens since The Kitchen Company opened back in 1953. Along the way, we’ve learned so much about what works best, what has staying power, and what really makes an impact.

To help you with your kitchen design process, we’ve put together tried-and-true insight into our favorite blenders, toasters, ovens and more.

The must-have: The Wolf steam oven

When three out of five of our designers have something in their own homes, you know it must be good.

The Wolf steam oven uses steam to cook food, keeping leftovers nice and moist. You can even cook your Thanksgiving turkey in it, and it has some unique features, like the ability to bake bread and steam fruits and veggies for canning.

We encourage you to make an appointment to visit the Clarke showroom in Norwalk, CT to learn how to use a steam oven, instead of learning from the manual. On their visit, our designers got hands-on lessons and a delicious meal, too!

The perfect look: Subzero built-in refrigerators

Absolutely nobody makes refrigerators like Subzero -- and that’s something that every single one of our designers agrees on.

Their fridges are completely customizable in size and aesthetics. You can add a panel to hide your refrigerator from sight, or you can let the gorgeous stainless steel shine. You can combine the fridge and freezer units to get the exact configuration that meets your needs. Nothing tops a Subzero in form or function.

The thing you didn’t know you needed (but you do): Wolf warming drawer

Warming drawers are a luxury, but if you have a busy lifestyle, it’s a luxury that you’ll never regret. The Wolf warming drawer will keep dinner warm when the kids are late from soccer practice. It will keep your coffee warm when you’re not quite ready to sit down and drink it. And it keeps plates toasty during the winter months when a little extra warmth makes everything feel nice and cozy.

The quirky touch: Smeg toasters

Smeg is a unique, creative brand with a passion for innovation and green technology, and their toasters are perfection. They’re retro and high-qualty, and belong on the countertop, not hidden away. They come in two- or four-slice varieties and in an array of classic or vintage colors. Our collective favorite? Pastel green.

The multi-tasking tool: Ninja Nutrient and Vitamin Extractor

There are so many blender options to choose from, but this is the one that never fails to impress.

If you’re thinking that a blender doesn’t seem like a big deal, it’s because you’ve never had a Ninja. It can blend whole fruits and vegetables so you get all the nutritional benefits without any waste. It makes outstanding smoothies, and you can also use it to blend homemade soup, make frozen sorbet and even grind whole coffee beans. Impressive, right?
